Having Math every other day, it is important to practice new concepts daily. Students will have a monthly packet to complete in addition to homework assignments. There will be a “math workshop” built into every class time where students will practice new concepts. This is not time to complete their homework.
Grading Policy
Tests/Projects/Quizzes: 35%
Homework/Classwork: 30%
Monthly Assignments: 25%
Participation (class participation, preparedness, responsibility): 10%
Tests/Projects/Quizzes
Tests and Projects will be given at appropriate times throughout the year. Students will get at least 1 week notice for a test and an appropriate timeline for projects. Quizzes will be given on occasion, but may not be always announced in advance.
Monthly Assignment
Students will have an ongoing monthly assignment including current concepts as well as prior concepts. A due date will be given when the assignment is handed out, it will NOT be accepted after the given due date. If a student chooses to complete it early, they may hand it in to be corrected. I will return the assignment within 2 days for the student to complete revisions, if necessary. If the packet is 100% correct, I will hold onto it.
Homework/Classwork
Homework will be assigned on a regular basis. Assignments will generally be short in length (5-6 questions) that will be due the next class period. Each homework assignment is worth 5 points. All work must be shown in order to receive full credit.
Classwork will be completed regularly. This will consist of but not limited to worksheets, stations, and interactive math games. Students will be graded on their work completed during class. All work must be shown in order to receive full credit.
Challenge of the Month
Every month, there will be an optional challenge problem available for all students to complete. This will be considered an extra credit opportunity. The questions within the challenge problem will consist of the following:
· Problems that anticipate material that we will cover soon
· Problems that synthesize and apply several big ideas
· Problems that extend ideas beyond what we will discuss in class.
Students may hand-in this problem at any time during the month. I will correct and return if revisions are needed. If the problem is 100% correct, I will hold onto it.
